RAK speed camera vandal strikes again

Unknown arsonists burned a police speed camera in Ras Al Khaimah in an apparent retaliation for payment of large fines for road offences.

It was the second attack on the Galila road camera and the fifth on a speed camera in the Northern Emirate over the past year.

Police said they found the traffic speed camera on Galila road charred on Tuesday morning after a night attack by arsonists.

Last month, police arrested a man who confessed to having torched that camera after paying many fines for speeding.

“We will not tolerate any person trying to damage public property…police will hunt down those who carry out such attacks and eventually seize them,” said Colonel Salim Rabei, head of Khor Khowair police station.
