In 2013, thanks to implementation of best prevention and control methods, and effective awareness campaigns, Dubai saw fire accidents drop by 8 per cent as compared to 2012, the Dubai Civil Defence Director General has disclosed.

As many as 380 fire accidents, including 11 massive arsons, were reported last year, Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi said, noting that firefighters had achieved the fastest rate of response time of 9.23 minutes.

''The operations unit is conducting regular objective analysis of time response to arsons and its impact and other circumstantial factors to mitigate risks in the scene of accident.

“According to these findings, we plan new civil defence centres in future taking into consideration traffic jams and signals, Salik road toll gates and street addresses to reach the accident scene in a record time,'' he added.

He explained that firefighters managed to contain flames in 11.69 minutes in 92.8 per cent of the fire accidents.
