Road accidents drop across the UAE

Traffic accidents at the national level in 2012 showed a decline of 3.7 per cent.
The number of accidents went from 6,700 in 2011 to 6,454 in 2012, which also resulted in a decline in fatalities from 720 in 2011 to 628 in 2012.

Brigadier Ghaith Al Zaabi, Director General, Department of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, revealed the statistics in a press conference.
He explained that the strategy of the Ministry of Interior to reduce traffic accidents and improve traffic safety at the state level in 2012 succeeded in achieving a rate of 6.53 deaths per 100,000 residents.

The ministry aims to reach a ratio of 5.5 deaths per 100,000 residents.
The press conference comes ahead of the Gulf Traffic Week, which starts Sunday morning across all Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) under the slogan ‘Our goal is safety’.
This campaign will continue for 2013 and 2014.
