RTA, Dubai Municipality join hands to clean Dubai roads

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the launch of a campaign for cleaning Dubai roads in collaboration with the Dubai Municipality in an effort to maintain the cleanliness of the environment on the right-of-way, and nurture a clean & proper environment gratifying to residents, visitors, and road users of the Emirate.

Engineer Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, said: "The campaign, which runs in partnership with the Dubai Municipality and other related service entities and continues till the end of this month, echoes the attention to bolster the aesthetic appearance of the Dubai Emirate to live up to its billing as a global tourist destination likewise other modern metropolis."

"We have opted to start with the Sheikh Zayed Road as a starting point due to its vital importance and strategic location both to the aesthetic and urban aspects. The approved program includes cleaning works, and the removal of accumulated dust in the medians. The campaign is launched with the intention of boosting the profile of Dubai among modern cosmopolitan cities; which epitomizes the urbanized and futuristic vision of our prudent leaders aimed at turning the Emirate into an attractive hub in keeping with the advancements it made at all fronts. The campaign is therefore considered a true manifestation of these objectives, and the RTA as well as its partners are intensifying their efforts to maintain the standing of Dubai and add to its local, regional and international reputation," she added.

She explained that, a specialist team comprising engineers & technical inspectors is working in coordination with the Traffic and Roads Departments to provide traffic diversions along with the associated directional signage through RTA contractors as per the approved standards in order to ensure the public safety and the smooth flow of traffic for both pedestrians and motorists.

Salah Amiri, Assistant Director General for the Environmental Services Sector of Dubai Municipality: "Starting at Sheikh Zayed Road is just Phase One to implement the manual cleaning program to remove the accumulated leftovers including sands and randomly grown grasses where the machinery is hard to intervene, explaining that the cleaning operations have so far resulted in cleaning (5) kilometers two way between the Trade Center Tunnel and Al Safa Park Bridge with the participation of more than (45) workers from the two sides per day, and accumulate (17,552) of garbage bags."
