Fifteen-year-old Harry Harling fatal plunge from the 11th floor of an under-construction building has impacted the minds of his school friends, who’ve taken to twitter and facebook to express their shock and condolences, with the GEMS Jumeriah College stepping in to offer counseling for grieving pals.
“The college held a coffee morning for parents today so that we could support them also in their time of need,” stated Fiona Cottam, principal of Jumeriah College, where Harry was a year II student.
The students were encouraged to avail of help from their “full-time trained counseller, who also has training in bereavement”.
The principal added that they’ve also been offered help from other schools in the Gems network, and "the College is also working closely with the Lighthouse Bereavement Centre”.
The school is also taking steps to educate and create awareness about the deadly impact of alcohol. “The College will continue to work closely with outside professional agencies and the British Consulate, who have assisted in providing high quality briefing sessions for young people, on the dangers of toxins. The College has a very structured PSHCE and tutor programme that is fully integrated in to our pastoral and academic curriculum, which addresses many of the issues facing young people today in society,” she said.
“The College is a somber place this week but together we will find a way forward. At the moment, we are responding to the wishes of Harry’s family and when the time is right, we will mark our respects with their approval,” she added.
