Dubai’s busy Baghdad Street is set to get wider, from being two lanes to three lanes.

Although Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has not yet confirmed a date for the big reveal, the roadwork looks almost complete.

Baghdad Street or D95 runs perpendicular to Beirut Street.

It connects three main roads – Ittihad Road, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road – and is frequented by motorists who travel between the emirates. It offers great connectivity with all three main roads.

The extension, on either side, runs from the traffic signal at 7th street to the signal at Beirut Street. This should help ease the bottleneck, that’s a regular feature during peak-time traffic.

The Sharjah-Dubai traffic should ease following this extension. Motorists using this road believe it would. “I can see that the roadwork has progressed well and is close to completion. I am looking forward to it opening up, which would mean no traffic jams," said Neil Shah, a resident of Al Nahda.

“This is a great effort on the part of the RTA. This will help improve the traffic situation in our area and reduce the traffic jam considerably,” said another resident, who did not wish to be named.
