The first edition of Sharjah Shopping Festival will be held from March 3 to 19, 2016 at the Expo Centre in the emirate.

The Sharjah event will be held across 17 days in March, about a month after the end of Dubai Shopping Festival.

The festival will offer discount sales, various entertainment activities and will also have themed pavilions and lucky draws and prizes.

Sharjah Expo Centre will be the venue and the organisers are hoping that they can rope in about 200 to 300 traders to participate in the festival.

“We are planning to rope in all types of traders, from garments to perfumes to art and handicrafts to anything that interests the general consumer,” says Mahesh Sharma Director of SAS Events, the company that is organising the event.

When asked if it would be a mini version of the DSF, he said, “Currently the venue will be limited to the Expo Centre. We have not partnered with malls and shopping centres across the emirate.

The event is being billed as the first ever consumer event of its kind in the emirate.

“The Sharjah Shopping Festival will be another accolade to the Emirate of Sharjah which is the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015. I am sure the event will go a long way in making Sharjah a key shopping and tourism destination of the region,” said Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah.

The festival will especially target local Sharjah-based businesses and trading firms and provide them with an avenue to market their products.

“It is probably for the first time that local businesses will be getting such a big platform to showcase their products to a wider audience. They will also get a chance to offer discounts and other deals in order to drive up sales during the show,” added Midfa.
