Shortest-ever marriage: Dubai man divorces bride 'in seconds'

A man who divorced his bride just seconds after their marriage in Dubai could have his name go down in the Guinness book of records had he thought about it.

Just after he stepped out of court where he got married, he stepped into another court next door and divorced her.

When he was asked by the divorcing judge how long he has been married to his wife, he did not hesitate when he replied “just seconds.” And he was quick in correcting the judge when he told him “my ex-wife.”

His reason for what could be the quickest divorce in the UAE was that he was forced by his bride’s father to allow her to keep her job.

“This man came to me and said he wanted to divorce his wife…when I asked him how long they have been married, he replied that ‘the ink in the pen which I signed my marriage contract has not dried yet,” said Abdul Salam Darweesh, director of the family rehabilitation and guidance section at Dubai’s courts.

“I was surprised so I asked him what he meant…his answer was ‘I just left the judge office next door after signing the contract with my ex-wife…I have even not received the marriage contract yet,” he told Albayan newspaper.

Darweesh said he asked the man about the reason for his hasty decision before he embarked on procedures to complete the divorce.

“He became tense…he then said that his bride’s father made a condition that his daughter must keep her job after marriage and that he accepted this condition because he was too embarrassed to say no….he said that he had thought the problem was sorted out with his bride but that she insisted on keeping her job,” he said without identifying the couple.

Good for him. Obviosuly he wasn't smart enough to sort it all out before attempting to get married... but hey, a thousand mile begins with a single step... at least he didn't wait to have children involved in an unstable marriage.

Sorry to say that some people treat a marriage contract as toilet paper!
