A driver had a narrow escape after his pick-up van caught fire in Sharjah’s industrial area on Thursday afternoon.

This was the third incident that his vehicle caught fire as he was pretty lucky to escape every time.

Heading from Dubai to Sharjah, the van caught fire for the third time today as soon as it crossed a signal and the driver stopped the vehicle to put the fire.

“The vehicle caused smoke in the entire area and we thought it will go up in flames any time. But the vehicle owner managed to bring the smoke under control,” an eye witness told Emirates 24|7.

Owned by a garage in Sharjah, the vehicle has caught fire on the previous two occasions.

“I was driving when smoke started coming from the van’s diesel tank side. I stopped it quickly as the nearby areas were covered in thick smoke. This is the third time I’ve faced this problem and thank God I am still alive today,” said the Bangladeshi driver today, who was carrying goods and a bicycle of the garage to Sharjah.

“The company is not repairing the faulty diesel tank which is causing this problem. If it had been a petrol engine the vehicle would have gone up in flames,” the driver told Emirates 24l7 as he tried to take his faulty vehicle on to a recovery vehicle.

Recently, a vehicle caught fire inside a petrol station while filling the tank, damaging the petrol station.

Proper maintenance of vehicles is necessary to maintain road safety and police have been advising motorists to be careful about their vehicle conditions.
