They just live longer in the UAE

Life expectancy in the UAE has continued to grow over the last few years and is remains the highest in the Arab World during 2010, thanks to better quality of life and higher standard of healthcare facilities in the country.

According to United Nations statistics, an average person born in the emirate lives 78.7 years since his birth during 2010 compared to 75 years in 2003.

The figures also revealed that women outlive men by more than four years as life expectancy at birth among women is averaged 81.5 years and 77.2 year among men.

In the global ranking, the country has been ranked 31st, ahead of many advanced countries including US, South Korea, Denmark, Malaysia and Turkey.

However, women outlive men in the emirate, showed UN statistics.

However, Gapminder World, which shows important global trends, also placed the UAE and Kuwait highest in the Arab World in life expectancy at 78 years for its 2009 statistics released recently. While the UN study has placed at 41st in global ranking and second in the Arab World with average life expectancy of 77.6 years. Women also outlive men in the emirate with an average age of 79.9 and 76.0 years, respectively.

Oman, Bahrain and Qatar have been ranked 53rd globally in life expectancy with average life of 75.6 years.

However, those born in Syria, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt have a life span of 74.1, 73.4, 72.8, 72.5, 72.0 and 71.3 years, respectively. All Arab states enjoy higher than the global average life expectancy which stands 67.2 years. Globally, men have an average life of 65 years and women 69.5 years.

People born in Japan, Hong Kong, Iceland, Switzerland and Australia enjoy the longest lives with life expectancy averaging 82.6, 82.2, 81.8, 81.7 and 81.2 years, respectively.
