Khalid Ali Bin Zayed, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for the international affairs and partnership sector with Diao Ellen, Deputy Secretary-General of the government of Guangzhou, have unveiled a monument to the city of Guangzhou in Zabeel Park.

The ceremony was attended by a number of officials from Dubai Municipality and the city of Guangzhou.

The monument is part of Dubai Municipality’s Sister and Twin Cities programme.

Khalid bin Zayed welcomed the Chinese delegation saying that this event is a firm new step in the journey of bilateral relations between the two cities.

“The monument to the city of Guangzhou in Zabeel Park reflects the strength of our deep brotherhood relations and it will also be a motivation for further development of these relations as well as to expand the horizons of mutual benefit for both parties.

“Our good relations are based on the principles of mutual cooperation and reflect the commitment of both parties with the exchange of experiences and best practices in the areas of municipal work,” he said.

“The memorandum of friendship singed in June 2000 has been upgraded to the brotherhood agreement in 2012 to emphasise more on the strength of our ties and areas of benefit between the two cities,” he added.

The Deputy Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipality praised the civic body and its officials for keeping a strong relationship with Chinese cities, and expressed his admiration on Dubai city for its distinct urban projects, tourist attractions and high-quality service facilities.
