Truck rams into sisters in Abu Dhabi; girl dies

Abu Dhabi Police arrested an Asian truck driver for causing the death of a 10-year-old Arab girl and seriously injuring her sister by driving his vehicle recklessly near a traffic light intersection in the capital, newspapers reported on Sunday.

Police said the man was driving at 50kph just before crossing the light, adding that this led to his failure to control his vehicle when the light started to shift to red.

They said the driver was caught off guard when the green light turned off and that he tried to stop the truck, causing it to swerve off the road and hitting the pavement towards Al Khakleej al Arabi street.

“The truck rammed into the two sisters, killing one and seriously injuring the other…the accident also caused damage to public property,” a police spokesman said.
