Two accidents on Dubai roads snarl traffic

Published

Traffic snarls have been reported across Dubai on Sunday morning with two separate incidences of vehicle collisions, along with a breakdown of traffic lights at the busy Greens Community roundabout.

Dubai Police confirmed an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road on its official Twitter account around 9am this morning, saying: “An accident reported on Sheikh Zayed Road under Dubai Mall Bridge towards Abu Dhabi causing a traffic jam; kindly take caution.”

Meanwhile, a second accident involving a minivan and a four-wheel drive has been reported on Al Khail Road, heading towards Abu Dhabi, with tailbacks reported all the way towards Business Bay bridge, Al Ain Highway and Dubai Silicon Oasis.

An eyewitness spoke to ‘Emirates24|7’, saying: “The accident on Al Khail Road is right before Exit 20, which is the exit for Meydan when coming from the Al Ain Highway.

“The police were already on the scene, with the left side of the minivan appeared to be badly scraped.

“The tailbacks were pretty bad with my drive time taking an additional 30 minutes to reach my exit.”

Also the traffic lights at the Dubai Investments Park had shut down. Jasim Kapadia, a commuter, tweeted: “Traffic lights not working at big roundabout on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.”

When ‘Emirates 24|7’ contacted the Roads and Transport Authority, they stated someone had been assigned to resolve the issue.

Another eyewitness has also warned of traffic building on Al Hadiqa Road, in front of the Union Coop Traffic light, connecting to Al Wasl Road with a “pickup truck having turned nearly 90 degrees” to block two lanes on the busy road.

Commuter Mohcin Ali tweeted: “Worst traffic jam of this month, travelled eight kilometres in two hours and still going: Sharjah-Dubai.”
