An immigration court in Dubai fined two companies Dh2.5 million on charges of hiring 565 expatriate workers not on their sponsorship.
Labour inspectors visiting construction sites in the emirate discovered the massive offences at the two firms when they found that all the workers are sponsored by firms registered in Ras Al Khaimah’s Investment Authority.

The RAK companies made clear that workers sponsored by them can be hired by other firms provided they get permits from the Ministry of Labour.

The Dubai court was told that the two firms had failed to get those permits, hence their decision to hire 565 workers violated the UAE’s labour laws.

Newspapers said one company was fined Dhtwo million while the other firm was ordered to pay Dh500,000.
Officials said no legal measures were taken against the workers on the ground they were just carrying orders from their sponsors.
