Humanitarian aid extended by the UAE Red Crescent in conflict-battered Yemen has benefited nearly 399,000 people in liberated Aden while the agency is carrying out projects for the handicapped and martyrs’ relatives worth an average Dh74,000 for each project, a newspaper said on Thursday.

A direct shipping line operated by the Red Crescent on orders by the UAE leadership to help the Yemeni people has so involved nine large vessels transporting more than 18,000 tonnes of relief aid and construction materials, the Dubai-based Emirat Alyoum said, quoting a Red Crescent statement.

Another vessel carrying more aid, including 14 cars for humanitarian volunteers, is on its way to Aden, where 170 volunteers have deployed to ensure the distribution of aid to more than 4,300 families in urgent need for assistance, it added.

“Since the liberation of Aden from the Houthis and their allies, the Red Crescent activities have covered nearly 57,000 families, or around 399,000 people on an average family of seven. The Red Crescent will continue sending aid to these people.”

It said relief efforts also include rehabilitation of 50 schools which have been delivered to education authorities, adding that 154 other schools are being reconstructed.

The statement said many hospitals have also been rebuilt and maintained and that they have been equipped with several ambulances and a large quantity of drugs.
