The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) has stressed the need for compliance of all manufacturers, importers and dealers of the speed specification devices with the regulations of the Emirates Conformity Assessment to control the devices, in accordance to the decision issued by the Chairman of Esma.

The mandatory resolution came into effect after expiry of the deadline set for the producers and traders to regulate their status.

Abdullah Al Muaini, Acting Director-General of Esma, noted that the excessive speed is a major cause of serious traffic accidents on the UAE roads, stressing that the mandatory application of the ‘The Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme’ to control the speed devices comes within a comprehensive system designed to apply the mandatory standards for all components of the vehicle, including auto parts, batteries, and the rest of the automotive components of various kinds, in order to combat fraud and counterfeiting, and to provide maximum safety for vehicles that roam UAE roads.

Al Muaini called on all manufacturers, importers and dealers to speed up submitting their applications to get the Emirates Conformity Assessment for Speed Specification Devices so as to install and use them in the vehicles inside the UAE.

He added that Esma has implemented all the procedures to apply the new programme, calling for adhering to the programme, which has been prepared in accordance to the international standards.
