UAE fiscal surplus put at over Dh56bn in 2013

The UAE recorded a fiscal surplus of around Dh56.3 billion in 2013 despite an increase of nearly 15 per cent in public spending, according to official data.

The surplus in the consolidated financial account (CFA), which covers the federal budget and spending by each emirate, was below the 2012 surplus of about Dh82.4 billion but above the Dh36.1 surplus recorded in 2011, according to the finance ministry figures published in the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Al Bayan.

The report showed spending surged by about 15 per cent to Dh339.9bn in 2013 while revenue was up by nearly 4.5 per cent to Dh396.2bn, one of their highest levels.

Expenditure stood at Dh296.7bn and revenue at Dh279.2bn in 2012 while they stood at Dh343.7bn and Dh379.8bn in 2011.
