The UAE has set itself a target of completely transforming its government into smart government by May 2015.

An official announcement of the eGovernment and mGovernment Readiness Index, specifically developed to calculating performance indicators of the UAE smart government, was made during recent workshops hosted by the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The TRA, represented by the mGovernment Initiative and in cooperation with the Office of the Presidency of the Council of Ministries, hosted two workshops at the Dubai and Abu Dhabi TRA headquarters in this respect.

The mGovernment Readiness Index includes measuring the electronic/smart transformation rate of the federal government services, the use of eGovernment/mGovernment services, and the rate of customer satisfaction with using these services, as well as the level of public awareness and familiarity with these services. This also includes the extent to which websites and smart application commit to the set quality standards.

The workshops were attended by several federal entities. “These workshops are a vital platform as we commence on the journey to completely transforming into a smart government by May 2015,” said Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of the UAE mGovernment initiative.

“We would like to tribute all the federal entities for their hard work and dedication, which was made apparent through the outstanding showcase of eGovernment and mGovernment services. This has been an imperative component, directly impacting the vision of turning the smart government initiative into a concrete reality, allowing us to positively reflect on customer happiness with regards to impacting their daily routines,” he said.

“The induction of the Readiness Index is to assist involved federal entities with taking a moment to observe how far they have come, with the amount of work currently completed. It is also a method of determining the degree customers using the smart applications and their level of satisfaction with services offered. We acknowledge that at this level all parties need to become familiarized with the application’s reliability and efficiency in performing all transactions and that is achieved through guidance and awareness campaigns,” he added.

The Readiness Index allows federal entities to use a self-evaluation platform that can constantly be referred to for measuring the service at any given time. In turn, this assists with the developmental plans being implemented in order to reach the anticipated goals.
