UAE labour panel settles case of 1,637 workers

The Labour Reconciliation Committee has settled a labour dispute in less than a week's time, giving 1,637 workers their financial entitlements worth Dh8.6 million, according to a judicial source at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The source said the amicable settlement guaranteed the right of would-be workers to transfer their sponsorship to another employer and provide air tickets to those wishing to return home.

 He noted that the case was settled in a record time, thanks to the provisions of the labour law and there being signed employment contracts, thus saving money, time and effort of the litigants and ending the suffering of the workers.

 He added that the dispute had resulted in company shutting down after it failed to pay salaries to the workers for more than three months and failing to provide them daily meals.
