Summer is here: UAE temperatures to hover around 50°C

Brace yourself for a summer scorcher as the Mercury is expected to gradually climb to sit one shy of 50 degrees Celsius in the UAE this weekend.

Adding to the relative discomfort of this seasonal weather will be a further rise in the humidity levels, according to the UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), which is bound to make bring on the sweat if you are planning a gig outdoors.

However, if you are planning to cross the border for a weekend getaway to neighbouring Oman, then do pack that umbrella as the Sultanate has issued a weather alert, warning of rain and thunderstorms along the coastal areas of Dhofar and Salalah.

Temperatures to rise

As the summer season takes hold, the UAE’s NCMS has stated this weekend will turn the heat up, with Friday bringing in hot weather in general.

The NCMS forecast states: “[It will be] partly cloudy and hazy at times over some areas, especially towards the south and east.

“Light to moderate winds in general, freshening at times, during the day towards the east and northwards.”

The temperatures around the coastal areas will settle at highs of 44 degrees Celsius, while the internal areas of UAE will see the Mercury soar to 49 degrees Celsius.

Adding to the woes will be the humidity, which the NCMS explains: “The relative humidity is likely to increase during night and early morning over some eastern and western coastal areas.”

The coastal areas will see a spike to 95 per cent, while the internal areas will reach 85 per cent.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

The weather on Saturday will also follow in a similar pattern, with the Mercury and the humidity level hovering around the same highs.

Rain on the horizon

Further down the coastline, Oman will be experiencing the monsoon season in Salalah and Dhofar.

The Oman Meteorology posted on its official Twitter account that rain and thunderstorms will be experienced in the coastal port of Salalah, with a warning of low visibility during heavy rains.

Dhofar and Al Hajar Mountain range will also experience sporadic showers, with wave heights near the coast reaching 13 feet at times.
