UAE temp to dip to an almost freezing 1°C

Expect rains in UAE tonight; Wet and windy cold spell to continue: NCMS

Wet and windy conditions will continue to prevail in the UAE this week, according to weather forecasters at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

According to the NCMS forecast for today, minimum temperatures are set to test 1°C in the UAE’s mountainous regions while internal areas could see temperatures dipping to a nippy 5°C and coastal areas could see minimum temperatures of 13°C.

The NCMS forecast for today reads: “Partly cloudy and rather cold in general during the daytime, with a chance of some light rain at times over the northern areas. Day temperatures are likely to decrease. Wind is fresh to strong in general, causing blowing sand / dust over the open lands by afternoon, and reducing the horizontal visibility at times. Wind speed tends to decrease during night and tomorrow early morning. Sea is rough to very rough.”

This follows the light to heavy rains witnessed in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah over the weekend, marking the end of the UAE’s dry spell.

NCMS reported light to heavy rains in parts of the emirates, particularly Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and other northern emirates. The conditions were partly cloudy and cold in Al Ain.

The NCMS warning level is yellow across the UAE, which urges residents and tourists to “[b]e on the lookout if you go in for outdoor activities which may involve risks in the event of bad weather forecast from time to time.”

@Suzy @Amer: Worry about what to wear rather than arguing on definitions! :P

@Suzy, I think they just meant it figuratively. But I agree, a better word would have been 'chilling'.

Good point Suzy, unless we are talking about super heated material or another element than water!

Suzy... theoretically you are right, but this word is normally said when it's very cold! Sometimes you would say 'I'm freezing', but that does not mean the temperatures are zero... so I don't see any problem with this report.

1 degree celcius is not freezing...that would require a temperature below 0.

Time to head to the beaches of sunny and warm Seychelles for a tropical break.
