UAE weather: Clear skies for National Day holidays

The record rains that lashed the UAE this past weekend have cleared the path for sunny skies and a bump in the humidity scales over the next few days.

Last weekend’s storm saw a record 195mm of rain on Dalma Island, the highest recorded over 10 years in the UAE. Rain also continued to play havoc to city life, with KHDA forcing early closures of schools on Thursday, while emergency services working in over drive with incidences of water logging, people being stranded and numerous road accidents.

The good news, according to the UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology, the storm has passed for the time being, with Tuesday and Wednesday blowing in relatively cooler climes, with a high probability of fog over the western region, specifically the Liwa desert area.

Drivers are warned to proceed with caution as visibility could be greatly reduced.
By Wednesday, humidity will continue to creep up to a whopping 99 per cent in the coastal areas, with partly cloudy skies not expected to give way to rains just yet.

If you live in the internal areas of the country, you may just have to wait a tad longer to reach for that sweater in the evening, with highs of 27 degrees Celsius being reported by the NCMS.

Meanwhile, beachgoers and fishermen will face relatively calmer seas in the Arabian Gulf and the Omani waters.

Forecast on November 25

After a weekend that was largely marked by wet weather and fog, the NCMS' forecast for today is much brighter, with it being partly cloudy to cloudy at times over some areas.

There is still a chance of some light rain with the wind moderate in general, freshening at times especially over the sea. The seas, however, are forecast to remain rough in the Arabian Gulf and off Oman.

Temperatures continue to drop as well with highs not more than 27 degrees Celsius to lows of 7 degrees Celsius in the mountains.

For most of the UAE, however, the lows will hover around 11 degrees Celsius.

The weekend storm may have passed, but the overcast sky will continue to play a damper this Sunday, with light to medium rain showers reported in parts of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Meanwhile, a cloud of dense fog has descended onto parts of Ras Al Khaimah, reducing visibility as per the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.

However, as the fog clears, the relative humidity will increase over some internal areas during morning time.

The NCMS has confirmed the north eastern and coastal areas, mainly Sharjah, Furjairah and Ras Al Khaimah, will experience showers today, with a lightning display visible in the early hours.

The unstable weather is expected to weaken as the day progresses, said the NCMS, however, the warning to sea goers still stands with rough seas anticipated in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman.

For those venturing in the mountains, the minimum temperature is expected to drop as low as seven degrees Celsius.

This weekend saw one of the worst storms to hit the UAE in seven years, with parts of Sharjah remains flooded as the sewage system overflowed with rain lashing the country.

A seven-year-old Emirati also tragically died after falling into a deep hole filled with rainwater in Wadi Shaam area of Ras Al Khaimah.
