Qatar Airways has become the fifth passenger airline that has confirmed its take off from Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central, the UAE’s new airport, inaugurated on October 27 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The inaugural flight, which was welcomed on Sunday, 11am, was Hungarian budget carrier, Wizz Air.
Qatar’s extension of services to the new airport comes in addition to the carrier’s services to Sharjah’s international airport, taking its flights to 14 per week at each destination.
In a statement, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “The ever increasing demand for flights to the UAE has provided the business case for expanding our services to Sharjah and Dubai World Central.
“The location of both airports will offer travellers alternative options to reach their final destination when flying to Dubai.”
