‘Just landed into Dubai picked up the Ferrari! Don't worry I won’t speed ;)’

This was the last message posted by Toronto-based boxer Cody Nixon, posing with a yellow Ferrari, before that fateful crash that killed the Canadian national in a high-speed crash with three others.

According to Dubai Police, the rented supercar rammed into a lamppost and split into two in the neigbhourhood of Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

Three Europeans and a Canadian were killed when their rented Ferrari rammed into a power pole and split into two in a high-speed crash in Dubai on Sunday.

The three Europeans, including a woman, and the Canadian were in the speeding car in Jumeirah Lakes Towers area although the car is designed for seating two passengers.

Dubai Traffic Police Chief Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said the motorists were driving at high speed even as the speed limit in the area is 60kmph.

“The three Europeans died on the spot due to impact of the crash while the Canadian suffered from serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He died later,” Col. Al Mazroui said.

He stated the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, when the driver lost control of the Ferrari, which was being driven over the speed limit. The car veered off the road and hit the pavement before hitting lamppost on the street, causing the car to split break into two halves.

He noted that the force of the collision threw all three outside the car. He said police have contacted the car rental firm to determine the exact speed of the car at the time of the accident.

Friends and supporters have peppered social media with messages of condolences, with Oshawa’s Motor City Boxing Club posting this message on Facebook: “It’s with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Cody “C-4” Nixon. Cody lost his life yesterday while vacationing overseas. RIP Cody.”

Other touching messages have also been posted on Nixon’s Instagram account, with Pious C posting: “My condolences. I remember when we first met at Harry Rosen, when you shopped from me for your vacay, all the way up until just last week training at Equinox together – had some great times with you. You'll be missed Cody.”

Jimmy posted: “RIP Cody you were kind and offered me your boxing lesson when we met at LA Fitness! Prayers to your family.”

Global Affairs Canada spokesperson, Diana Khaddaj, confirmed to ‘Emirates 24|7’ that two Canadian citizens passed away in the fatal crash.

She further stated: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two Canadian Citizens who passed away in the UAE.

“Canadian consular officials in the UAE are in contact with local authorities and are providing consular assistance to the families.‎"

Khaddaj declined to reveal further details, stating: “To protect the privacy of the individuals concerned, further details on this case cannot be released.”
