A court of cassation in Abu Dhabi upheld a previous court ruling and stripped a mother off the custody of her four-year-old boy on the grounds she is infected with a contagious virus, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The court issued its sentence on the basis of a medical report showing the virus is highly infectious and remains in human body forever. The report also showed the incurable virus could also affect human behaviour and self-control.

The boy’s father had filed a case at the court of first instance for denying custody of his son by his ex-wife but it was rejected, prompting him to appeal the sentence.

A court of appeals overturned the previous sentence and ruled for the father, prompting the mother to appeal with the court of cassation, which upheld the previous ruling.

Two Asian drug dealers sentenced to death in Abu Dhabi

An Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced two Asian men to death after they were convicted of smuggling and trading in drugs.

During the trial, one defendant denied the charges while the other said all the stuff belonged to him in a bid to save his friend.

Police had arrested the two on charges of selling 36 heroin capsules to a man, who testified in court against the dealers.

Execution in the UAE is carried out by a firing squad but it has to be ratified by the country’s President.
