Walk-in interviews at Dubai's Emaar unit today...thousands tried their luck on Friday

Job seekers thronged the Emaar headquarter in Emaar Business Park building number 3 located in the Greens on Friday early morning to try their luck for a limited number of customer service jobs advertised by the company's unit.

From Friday early morning, smartly-dressed job seekers of different nationalities poured in for walk-in interviews - even from other emirates – for the job of Customer Service Assistants at Emaar Retail LLC.

A candidate standing in the queue told Emirates 24l7 that there were probably more than a thousand job seekers in the queue and the security guards and the company officials were struggling to maintain calm at the scene. According to the candidate people continued to pour in even after 11 am.

“I can’t believe that such a large number of candidates have turned up for the jobs. I will still try my luck and don’t mind waiting for a few hours or a couple of days to give interview. If I am selected, I will be getting more than double the salary currently I am getting from my current employer. Many of my colleagues started early morning to be first to apply. I did not know that I will be part of this kilometer-long waiting list,” said a Filipino job seeker, who came all the way from Sonapur.

“Since it is Friday morning and the Metro is not running, I had to arrange an alternative and expensive transport to reach here on time. If Metro was open in the morning, many of colleagues would have joined me for the interview,” he said.

The fact that a blue-chip local company is recruiting again is a positive sign and the huge turnout in front of the Emaar Business Park shows the keenness and confidence of people in the company.

Emaar Retail manages the entertainment, leisure and retails operations of leading Dubai brands like Dubai Aquarium, Underwater Zoo, Dubai Ice Rink, KidZania, SEGA Republic, Reel Cinemas and ARMANI/Casa among other brands at the Dubai Mall and Dubai Marina Mall. Emaar recently announced that it’ll expand Dubai Mall.

The company, which had advertised for jobs in local newspapers, didn’t mention the number of people it’ll recruit. Most of the employees who turned up for the walk in interview appeared to be from the Philippines and were either seeking a better job from their low paid jobs or seeking fresh jobs.

Walk-in interviews on Saturday also

The company will hold walk-in interviews for two days on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25, from 10 am to 3 pm.

“This is the first time they have advertised for a customer service assistant. I have seen a big queue outside their office and don’t know how many people will be selected. Nearly two thousand people are waiting in the queue and rumours that the salary will be Dh3,000. I am waiting here from morning. I am hungry too but don’t want to leave the queue because I will never get a chance again today. Tomorrow I am working and I cannot come here,” said Ronnel, another Filipino job seeker.

“If they take 10 minutes per application, it will take more than three days to complete the interview. I don’t know how many people will get selected. I am here to try my luck with a few other friends from my country,” said a Kenyan job seeker, patiently waiting in the queue.

“I think more job seekers will be here tomorrow because the Metro will be operational on Saturday early morning,” he added.

A Taxi driver said: “Normally on Fridays we have a lean business but today it is a win, win game because most of the job seekers came in taxis. They may wait till afternoon for the Metro stations to reopen, but still we get our share of business. I did not know where is Emaar Business Park, but I found out the exact location and reached here at 7.30 am, but there was a big queue out there. I am trying my luck,” said another job seeker.
