Turkey, Maldives and Thailand topped the list of favourite places which people from the UAE visited during short holidays this year.

Speaking to ‘Emirates24|7’, a travel agent from Al Tayer Travel Agency in Dubai said during this year’s short public and private holidays, they noticed people from all nationalities in the UAE were mainly heading to Turkey, Maldives and Thailand.

“These three places were the most common and the favourite destinations for travellers more than other countries for variety of reasons,” he said.

The travel agent added that people always consider the amount of money they are going to spend while travelling. “So a number of countries have actually suited the different financial levels of many travellers. These countries are Turkey, Maldives, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia,” he said.

According to him, the most popular destination for this year was Turkey, which people always love to visit because it is a beautiful country with nice people and food. “It is a country that you can visit all-round the year and you can be in Asia and Europe at the same time, he added.

He pointed out that Maldives is honeymoon destination of all times, and it is a paradise where couples can enjoy their best moments, and it’s also affordable. “The other important factor that encourages people to visit Maldives is that it is only four hours by flight from the UAE.”

The travel agent also noted that Thailand is the land of shopping and night life, and people can go there with families, friends, and even alone.

“People love to head there also for medical tourism, as it is more affordable with top quality health services compared to other European destinations.”

He added that as for Sri Lanka, it had a huge spending advantage. “Who doesn’t want to spend less money with a lot of amazing things one can see and buy there. In this country, people enjoy the hills, beach, and culture.”

According to him, Malaysia is another favourite destination for UAE travellers. “Malaysia truly is Asia, it is a country where you can enjoy the jungle, shopping malls, adventure, food and entertainment. It is a great destination for photographers.”

He pointed out that they hope to see new destinations next year, and no one can expect what it is going to be like in 2015 as it all depends on the economic and political situation in the world. “Safety always comes first for travellers, and this will affect the destinations people travel to in 2015.”
