Woman on trial for claiming she was raped

An Asian woman will stand trial in Ras Al Khaimah on charges of giving a false report to the police that she was raped, the press reported on Thursday.

Police investigating the case found that the woman was not raped and that her complaint was fake, the papers said.

The trial of the unnamed woman will begin on September 5 on charges of “providing a false report to the authorities,” they said, quoting a court official.

Five men, some of whom were masked, abducted 24-year-old Emirati before the eyes of his father in Ajman, took him to a desolate desert area and severely beat him up before dumping him back near his house with a swollen face.

The five, including three masked men, waited for Ahmed Al Shehi to walk to the mosque with his father for noon prayers, jumped out of their four-wheel car amidst a dust storm sparked by the vehicle, and forced him inside in a movie-style kidnapping operation that left his father dumbfounded.

The father, Abdullah, said the five were ex-friends of his son and that he recognised two of them, adding that one captor has been arrested by the police.

Quoted by the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm, Ahmed said the five attacked him following an old dispute over the purchase of a car and that he stopped contacting them for a long period of time.

“They took me to an isolated area and beat me severely for nearly three hours, using sharp objects…….after they finished, they wanted to tie me up and dump me in a remote desert area but one of them objected and said that I must be returned home after I had enough,” Ahmed said.

He said he could hardly walk when they throw him out of the car near his sister’s house, adding that he crawled to the door and shouted for help. “My sister phoned the police and an ambulance, which took me to hospital with severe injuries,” he said.

His father told the paper that police had arrested one of them and that a manhunt is underway to find the four other captors.
