Woman raped in 'public' inside car in capital

A woman passing by a park in Abu Dhabi heard the victim screaming and called the police

A Pakistani man lured an Ethiopian woman into his car and raped her in public in the middle of the day in Abu Dhabi, local newspapers reported on Wednesday.

The man offered the Ethiopian a lift and took her to a street near the Khalidiaya park in the middle of the capital to rape her inside his vehicle.

“After hesitation, she accepted his offer and got into the car. He then tied her up and threw her on the back seat,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.

“He drove away and parked the car on a street near Khalidiya park at around 12 noon and raped the woman after beating her up.”

The paper said the woman was about to go to the police when he grabbed her and threw her back into the car. He then called his friend and joined hands in beating her up again to prevent her from calling the police.

A passing woman heard her screaming and called the police, who rushed to the scene and arrested the two, the paper said.

The woman told the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court that she was beaten up and raped but the convict denied the charges, saying he had sex with her for money.

The court adjourned the case to October 5.

You know, guys, there are plenty places in the world where rides for free are offered and taken, by both women and men, and passengers are delivered to destinations absolutely safe.... And money is not involved.

What got her into the car in the first place. What did she think they were offering her the ride for?

What if these same persons committed the crime in their own country? Feel sorry for both these persons. One who commits the crime and the other a victim.

its necessary to give severe punishment for such crimes to detest others from doing the same. Worldwide rules have become to slack in the name of humanity resulting in more people commiting crimes. Hang the rapist and see the results.

I hope justice will take place and the criminals get the right punishment, unlike what happened with the Brazilian teenager girl story.

We cannot judge sitting at home. If money is involved in this case then all three should be punished severely, and if it's proved she was really raped then she should be given a chance to punish them as it is her life that is messed up now.

So the message here is if you are a woman it's your mistake. Men can prowl the streets and if you get into a car your'e asking for it and Zaran seems to be experienced in these ways! The usual tribal thinking justifying the rapist and denying the victim's rights.

Two main points from this story: 1) The lady is stupid. 2) The Pakistani who tried to juggle during daylight is the worst dummy ever born.

You and I may know not to deal with strangers but some of these people have never ventured outside of their small enclaves in a remote village or city in Ethiopia until they arrive here and these beasts know that and prey on them like the beasts they are. What we all need to think of, if you cannot bring yourself to sympathise with the victim, is to know that it could happen to our sisters, mothers, and daughters as long as the beasts are out there. Disgusting!

It is unfortunate that there are beasts out there disguised as men, but it is even more devastating that such beastly acts are almost touted and cheered on by some of us. The fact is that some of these vulnerable sisters are not adequately prepared and warned of the dangers of being trusting of others.

I am saddened and disgusted, not only by what has happened to this lady but by some of the comments I read on this unfortunate story. I am not jumping to any conclusions but the bare fact that we are reading this on the newspaper and the fact that the police showed up to arrest two men tells of foul play. Could this have been your sister, daughter, mom, cousin, friend, etc?

There could be a different side to this. Women do prowl the streets offering sex for money. Once they get a customer and get the amount, they create a scene to get more money. Most people just pay them so as to not get into trouble. Anyway the trial will bring out the culprit.

I don't think any man in the UAE has so much of courage to do something like that against a woman's will. There is always something fishy in these stories!

You get in a car with a strange man? What did you think was going to happen, discuss the weather condition? I'd like to know if the car will be sold, I woudn't mind picking it up.

I am in shame as a Pakistani. I am sad my people are always doing all these crimes.

    No more a safe place.

I have no doubt in my mind that some people are innately violent. I am repulsed and can't help but wonder for how long should we put up with such people's insanity. They are a real menace to the peace and tranquility of this country.
