With the temperatures soaring, the Dubai Municipality has devised a unique programme to help workers beat the heat.

They will distribute health drinks at the work sites in a bid to help those workers who spend a lot of time in the scorching heat.

According to Abdul Majeed Saifaie, director of waste management department at the civic body, the department has distributed drinks to about 2,000 workers every day.

He highlighted how the Dubai Municipality is constantly striving to provide a better working environment to its workers.

Assistant director general Salah Amiri stated, “Dubai Municipality has been keen on reaching out to its employees, especially workers, and to know what their personal hurdles are while on duty. We know that summer is at its peak and this category of workers have to bear the heat stress more.

“The bare exposure to heat causes health risk for them. So the civic body has planned to support them by distributing drinks that help them stay healthy."

The initiative will be undertaken throughout summer.

Earlier, the civic body had distributed nearly 3,000 unique 'cooling caps' to help the workers.

Powered by solar energy, these caps are fitted with a mini-fan that help workers remain cool.

Talking to Emirates 24|7, Saifaie had said that the initiative was a first of its kind, and is line with Director-General  Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah’s directive to ensure the welfare of every worker who helps make our city a comfortable place to live in.

“Summer is extremely hot here, and we decided to do something for our workers who have to be out. We found the caps to be one of the most simple but impacting solution.

The Director General had also launched the Takaful Box initiative that collects donations for the welfare of workers.

Calling them the unsung heroes of our city, Lootah encouraged every department to take steps to ensure their workers are provided with a comfortable life.
