Will you nominate your maid for a reward? These residents will…

Getting a good housemaid is a dream for many in the emirate and if you are among the lucky ones who have one, this is perhaps the time to reward them for their hard work.

In its latest initiative of honouring domestic helpers as part of the campaign ‘Domestic Helpers, Care and Accusation’ to reduce the crimes committed by domestic workers, The Criminal and Investigation Department at the Dubai police is encouraging sponsors to send in applications for their housemaids so that they can be nominated for the rewards.

And, employers who are fortunate to have a good help, are not shying away from nominating their housemaid.

“I have a housemaid who is fairly new. A week back she got bitten by a dog on her day off. When she returned, she was in much pain. I’ve got her treated and we are still going for her regular vaccination. But what amazes me is her sheer dedication to work despite the pain she was in. The wound was terrible to look at but she did everything in the house with one hand bandaged even when I told her to take it easy. I will surely send in her application,” said Sunita G, an Indian national.

Another resident of the city even described her housemaid as a “de facto mother”.

“I have elders and children in the house and taking care of them can be quite nerve-racking, but she [the housemaid] does it all. Besides, she’s quiet, honest, hardworking and composed – all the traits that can make someone worthy of appreciation or reward,” said another resident of the city.

Many other residents that this website spoke with have their fair share of stories – yes, good ones – about their maids and claim they would be happy to apply for their maids. “My kids are already so hyper-excited. They are ready to make her profile and the little one even plans to pray for the maid so that ‘Tart’ gets shortlisted, the name that they have given her,” said a European national.

For those interested, the applications can be sent on morle1@dubaipolice.gov.ae or fax number 04-2171466 or call toll free number 800243.
