A total of 51,511 vehicles in Dubai are under the threat of write-off for failure to comply with the registration process, according to a top official at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Sensing the threat, scores of motorists are taking advantage of the one-month grace period granted by the RTA and heading to register their vehicles in a hurry, reported The Gulf Today.

The RTA has said it would start writing off vehicles whose registration had expired two or more years ago effective from October 2010.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, the director of RTA Licensing Agency, has revealed that 51,511 out of the 1,025,169 registered vehicles in Dubai are under threat of being written off.

He said authorities would keep the confiscated vehicles in a secure place until their status is settled.
