With just four days remaining for the final day of the popular ‘Your Weight in Gold’ campaign, Dubai Municipality is working round the clock, prepping for the final stage of the campaign.

With nearly 10,000 participants signing on for the weight-loss programme, the final weight check will be carried out over four days, starting August 30.

More details about the time and place will be issued in the days to follow.

The ‘Your Weight in Gold’ campaign, where participants who succeed in losing more than 2kg will be rewarded in gold, has gained popularity in the emirate.

“This isn’t about the gold. It’s about encouraging people to stay fit and healthy,” explained Mohammed Al Noori, Director of Corporate Marketing and Relations Department at Dubai Municipality.

“Yes, gold is an incentive, but it’s only to help people understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle,” said Al Noori.

In the run-up to the grand finale, the civic body had organized fitness camps at Safa Park, Zabeel Park and Mamzar Beach over three days.

“We organised the camps to support participants of the campaign. Hundreds of participants joined us for outdoor exercises and to get medical checks and tips from our experts,” said Yusuf Murad Salmeen, head of media section, corporate marketing relations department of Dubai Municipality.

The officials advised the participants against any quick-fixes and encouraged them to adopt safe ways to shed their excess weight.

The civic body set up health awareness tents on Wednesdays and Thursdays to help issue informative health instructions to the participants.

After the campaign gained momentum, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality announced a revised gold reward scheme.

He added that participants will get 2gms of gold for every kilo lost after the 5-kg mark, and 3gms of gold for every kilo lost after the 10-kg mark.

Those losing 5kilos will be rewarded with 1gm of gold for every kilo lost.

“The interest to participate in the contest shows the high level of public health awareness and education of the citizens and participants in the emirate of Dubai,” he added.
