Best place in the world to be born: UAE 1st in Arab World

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Monday that the aim is to be one of the world’s best as has been laid out in the “Vision 2021”.

“We aim to be one of the best in the world, and our ‘Vision 2021’ has laid out a clear road map to accomplish this goal,” Sheikh Mohammed said in a tweet on Monday.

Economist Intelligence Unit placed the UAE first in the Arab World in its 'Where to be born in' index for 2013.

“According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, the UAE is 1st in the Arab World & 18th globally in: ‘The-where-to-be-born 2013 index,’” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted on Monday.

The UAE has been ranked ahead of many developed countries including Italy, Japan, France, Britain, South Korea among others.

Kuwait has been rated second in the Arab World and 22nd globally.

Interestingly, the UAE was also named the best country in the Arab World by the index when it was commenced in 1988. The country was ranked first in the Arab World and 32nd worldwide.

The index takes into account GDP/capita, GDP growth, inflation, cost of living, human rights, life expectancy, literacy, % of population in higher education, Economist readers per million capita, yawn index and bonus points.

Recently, the UAE was also ranked 1st globally in the educational attainment of women by World Economic Forum in its 2012 report. “UAE is ranked 1st globally in the educational attainment of women, in the 2012 WEF report. We take pride in the achievements of UAE women,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

The UAE has been rated highly by the global research reports, thanks to the quality of life of its offers, the best infrastructure and highly conducive business environment. Dubai and Abu Dhabi were recently rated among the world’s best cities for quality of life by 2012 edition of The Wealth Report, compiled by London-based property consultants Knight Frank and Citi Private Bank.

Mohammed attends ‘11th Fikr Conference’

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended on Monday the official inaugural session of the 11th Fikr conference - ''Thought Conference '' - organized by the Arab Thought Foundation.

The conference entitled ''The Citizen and the Future of Governments'' is being held in Dubai under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.

In attendance of the opening session, which started with the national anthem, were Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Prince Khalid Al Faisal, Chairman of the Arab Thought Foundation, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, a number of Sheikhs, princes, ministers, heads and directors of departments and institutions and others.

Prince Khalid Al Faisal thanked the UAE led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for their efforts and initiatives to support the endurance of the Arabic language and culture.

He said in a prose that Allah created human being in His image and endowed him with a mind to prevail over the mortal universe. Prince Khalid, who concluded his speech amid applause, added that Allah also promised human being with a paradise.

Dr Suleiman Abdulmoneim, secretary general of Arab Thought Foundation announced 50 speakers will address the two-day long conference in five sessions, besides a workshop in which elite of Arab thinkers and innovators from the UAE and a number of Arab countries will take part.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid appreciated the convention of the conference to enable Arab thinkers and intellectuals communicate and exchange views on the Arab latest developments, especially the political, cultural and social changes.

He lauded the efforts of Prince Khalid Al Faisal, Chairman of Arab Thought Foundation, noting that the foundation brings together the Arab cultural, political and intellectual elites under one umbrella to launch constructive initiatives and consolidate the Arab culture concept, especially among the youth.

Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the participants at the conference, indicating that the UAE in general and Dubai in particular welcome all Arab innovators in different fields.
 
Mohammed bin Rashid creates Jalila Medical Education and Research Foundation

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued law No. (10) of 2012 establishing Al Jalila Foundation for medical Education and Research.

The law states that the new medical research and education foundation shall operate as a non-government-non-for profit organisation from its head office at Dubai Healthcare City and shall have an independent legal, financial and administrative character.

The mandate of Al Jalilia Foundation shall focus on improving healthcare services by encouraging academic and scientific research in various medical specialisations.

Other terms of reference include making efforts to ensure UAE's leadership in medical sciences through funding scholarships and medical research, promoting the culture of excellence in medical academic and research stream to upgrade the health standards within the UAE and beyond. The Foundation shall also build researchers' capacities to make innovative breakthrough in medicine and guide them to conduct studies on the most useful topics to their community and to contribute to medical advancement so as to achieve sustainable development in local, regional and international communities.

It shall also provide medical assistance to those in need inside and outside the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed has also issued decree No. (23) of 2012 forming a five-member board of trustees of the foundation under the presidency of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group.
