Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, has appointed Major Ali Ahli as the coordinating officer between the department and tour operators in the emirate.

This was revealed during a recent meeting that Maj Gen Al Marri had with representatives of tourism companies in Dubai.

Al Marri said this step will be followed by appointing liaison officers for other businesses also like hospitality, textiles and gold jewellery etc.

He explained that the liaison officers will address the problems faced by workers in their respective sectors, like visas.

He said the liaison officers will have contact numbers and e-mail addresses which can be used by workers in various industries to contact officers appointed for their respective sectors.

Marri said the appointment of liaison officers for the tourism and other sectors is only a first step. Eventually, a special administration may have to be set up to cater to all industries in Dubai.

At the meeting Major General Al Marri listened to the requests, suggestions and complaints from representatives of tourist companies.  He said all requests that do not violate the law will be implemented immediately.

Marri said there is no discrimination in issuing visas for certain nationalities.

Marri called on tourist companies to focus their efforts on tourists from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, both citizens or residents.
