Mohammed attends Epsom Derby

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday attended the Epsom Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance; Queen Elizabeth II of the UK, also watched the seven-round race. Since the first participation in the greatest flat race in the world in 1989, the UAE riders have won seven cups.

Harzand, owned by Aga Khan and saddled by Pat Smullen, rode to victory in the 1.5 mile Derby 2016.

The UAE riders put up a magnificent performance with Postponed, owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Obeid Al Maktoum and saddled by Andrea Atzeni, winning the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Cup.

Among those who attended the race were Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of Sheikh Mohammed; and a number of sheikhs, senior officials, owners and breeders as well as a crowd of fans.

Mohammed consolidates Twitter standing among world’s most-followed

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has retained his position among top leaders worldwide on Twitter, as his followers upped to more than 6 million and 250 thousand followers.

According to Twiplomacy, a leading global study of world leaders on Twitter, Sheikh Mohammed came fifth in the list that included US President Barak Obama, Pope Francis, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Sheikh Mohammed’s Twitter website draws followers from Arab world, Europe, America and Asia, besides the GCC states.

The report affirms that Sheikh Mohammed’s tweets have “made him approachable to the masses and his open engagement with audiences on all social platforms demonstrates the UAE government’s efforts to be open to dialogue”.

From announcing new laws to restructuring the cabinet and warning people about accidents and crimes, the UAE government has strengthened its public service by connecting to people in real-time, one tweet at a time

The report also revealed that the page of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, came second on the list of the most followed foreign ministers. The page recorded 3 million and 160 thousand followers.
