Mohammed bin Rashid attends Meydan reception on eve of Dubai World Cup

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended on Thursday evening a reception hosted by Meydan ahead of the Dubai World Cup, which will be staged on Saturday at Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, Nad Al Sheba.

The world's richest race meeting, the Dubai World Cup, is attracting world renown riders who will compete with their UAE peers.

The function was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain's National Olympic Committee, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, a number of senior officials,headline sponsors, partners, businessmen, stables owners and Arab and foreign personalities.

Splash of colourful fireworks lit up the skyline of Jumeirah Beach Residence while the audience enjoyed musical performance, and watched a horse show.

Sheikh Mohammed interacted with the audience and talked with them about the expected race.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received onThursday at Zabeel Palace in the presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler, a delegation from City of Chengdu, China's Wenjiang district.

Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE is no doubt the leader of the world and region in horse racing sports and breeding. '' We are proud of that and we have no reservation for bolstering cooperation between Meydan and Chengdu,'' Sheikh Mohammed said.

Sheikh Mohammed told the Beijing Television (BTV) that Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, is eliciting overwhelming interest from international media and is receiving tremendous response from horse owners around the world, who are eager to compete in the US$ 10 race day.

He described Meydan racecourse and facilities as an ''unparalleled, creative, huge world-class architectural masterpiece, giving races a special taste. ''We are proud of this matchless civilisational achievement.'' Sheikh Mohammed commended the role the Chinese businessmen and investors is playing in the UAE. He added they are smart, diligent and are contributing to efforts aimed at boosting relations of investment and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
