Mohammed honours Arab Journalism Award winners in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has honoured the winners of the 14th edition of the Arab Journalism Award, in a ceremony held at the conclusion of the 14th edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. 

Those present at the awarding ceremony included Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai;  Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Secretary-General of the Arab Journalism Award and Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the AMF; as well as a large number of senior officials and Arab journalists.

Sheikh Mohammed presented the Media Personality of the Year Award to Sheikh Waleed Al Ibrahim, founder and chairman of MBC Group, in recognition of his efforts to enrich the Arab media landscape and his long and eventful career.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid presented the Best Newspaper Column Award to Khalid Al Kashtini, an Iraqi journalist and writer at Alknown as 'Bernard Shaw of the Arabs' for tackling social and political issues in a satirical style.

Sheikh Hamdan presented the Smart Journalism Award to Mohammed Al Hammadi, Editor-in Chief of Al Ittihad newspaper.

Winners of the other awards are:

 - Humanitarian Journalism Award: Sana Boukhlies of Almaghrib Today newspaper (Morocco).

- Specialised Journalism Award  : Khorsheed Ahmed of  Al Ittihad newspaper (UAE).

- Sport Journalism Award: Rouhi Darabeh and Mohammed Darbeh of Atlas Sport (Palestine).

- Cultural Journalism Award: Ashraf Abu Al Yazeed of Al Arabi Magazine (Kuwait).

- Investigative Reporting Award: Azza Maghazi of Al-Shorouk newspaper (Egypt).

- Economic Journalism Award: Alyaumn newspaper (Saudi Arabia).

- Political Journalism Award: Firas Al Kilani of Al Hayat newspaper.

- Press Interviews Journalism Award: Mona Kadkour of Al Watan newspaper (Egypt).

- Photo Journalism Award: Majdi Ashtiyeh of the Associated Press.

- Outstanding Cartoon Works Award: Yasser Al Ahmad of Makkah newspaper (Saudi Arabia).

- Young Journalist Awards: Nathalie Eklimos of Aljoumhouria newspaper (Lebanon), Rana Al Sharafi of Felesteen newspaper (Palestine), and Maryam Bouzachan of Al-Akhbar newspaper (Morocco).

During the ceremony, "A Message to the Nation," a poem by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was sung by Tunisian singers, Lotfi Bouchnak and Latifa. In the poem, Sheikh Mohammed depicts the exceptional circumstances that the Arab Nation is going through, and that have cast a heavy shadow on the reality and future of the Arab Region.

Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on Wednesday met with the members of the board of directors of the Arab Journalism Award at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

The meeting was attended by in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Deputy Ruler of Dubai,  Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Director-General of the Dubai government Media Office, Secretary-General of the Arab Journalism Award and Chair of the Organising Committee of the 14th Arab Media Forum.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed and the board members talked about media issues and the progress of the Arab Media Forum (AMF), the Arab Journalism Award, as well as ways of bolstering interaction and exchange of experience between Arab media people in order to support the role of Arab media in enhancing development in the Arab Region.

Sheikh Mohammed also greeted the board members of the award for their efforts and credibility in selecting the winning works and individuals.

He reiterated his continuous support for the AMF and the Arab Journalism Award to help achieve its goals.

The deputy chairman of the board of the award briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the criteria of nominating works that are intended to address the Arab political, economic, social and cultural reality.

The board thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his interest in supporting Arab media and serving the Arab and humanitarian causes both regionally and internationally.

He urged the journalists to ask questions about any topic of interest for them.

Sheikh Mohammed told his guests that the UAE is a leader in various spheres, in development and modernisation in particular. He noted that the UAE  enhances the effective and positive role of its national human resources and their creativity in all scientific, economic and technological spheres, thanks to its strong will, determination and positive attitude. .

The journalists said they were proud to meet Sheikh Mohammed whom they described as a leader, poet and prominent personality whose creative ideas turned Dubai to a model of success and welfare for other cities around the world.

They also hailed the Arab Media Forum as the only gathering place in the Arab Region for media people from all Arab countries, and as a forum for free discussion.
