Sheikh Mohammed inaugurates Gitex 2011 (WAM)

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the 31st edition of the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (Gitex 2011), at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sunday morning.

Accompanying Sheikh Mohammed were Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and several other dignitaries.

In his 3-hour tour of the venue, Sheikh Mohammed visited the stands of a number of national and international exhibitors such as etisalat, du, Yahsat, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the UAE, Blackberry, Kaspersky, Huawei, Motorolla, Panasonic and others.

In his visits to the stands, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by exhibitors on the state-of-the-art ICT products and services.

Beginning his tour with a visit to the etisalat pavilion, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by etisalat Chairman Mohammed Omran on the company’s latest comprehensive applications which allow subscribers to utilise social networking applications and e-commerce.

Sheikh Mohammed then visited the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) Authority pavilion and listened to a briefing about DSO’s upcoming $40-million investment project that brings together leading European and US technology firms under the supervision of RIT University.

Gitex 2011, which is heralded as one of the largest and most important ICT events around the globe, will run from October 9 to 13.
