Mohammed witnesses Pink Caravan Ride

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday has witnessed part of the annual ‘Pink Caravan Ride’, an initiative launched by Friends of Cancer Patients. The caravan started from Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed’s generous gesture is in support for the pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative. The ride was attended by Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum while the daughters of  Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Sheikha Salama and Sheikha Shamma, led the caravan.

Founder and Chairman of Board of Trustees of Friends of Cancer Patients and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Pink Caravan Ride, Ameera BinKaram expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Sheikh Mohammed’s care and unlimited support represented in his kind visit.

She also lauded the leadership’s support and the directives of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC.

Ameera BinKaram asserted that the participation of Sheikha Salama and Sheikha Shamma attracted attention to the caravan and helped delivering the campaign’s objectives to the community.

On its eighth day, the caravan covered 18km, starting from Burj Khalifa and ending at Burj Al Arab. The caravan attracted massive public attention.

Mobile Clinic

Pink Caravan’s mobile clinic, equipped with qualified medical staff, provides free medical scan for breast cancer. According to medical committee, over 475 patients were scanned on Sunday, totalling 3,971 patients over seven days.

The Pink Caravan is expected to arrive to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning and will proceed from Corniche Park to Zayed Military Hospital covering about 30.5km and concluding by a final ride from Sheikh Zayed Mosque to the Galleria covering 17.3km on its final day.

Mohammed attends Noor Dubai’s brainstorming session 

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has attended a side of the brainstorming session organised by Noor Dubai Foundation at Zabeel Ladies Club in Dubai. The session saw the participation of four teams from the foundation alongside volunteer students and prominent speakers from leading international Universities, banks as well as a team from the American-based Carter Centre.

Sheikh Mohammed listened to the ideas discussed about global blindness prevention, treatment and education aimed to fight preventable blindness as well as the foundation’s investments programs and its corporate identity.

Sheikh Mohammed also participated in the discussion sessions covering the Noor Dubai’s five year strategy (2015-2020) that will aid the foundation in its pursuit to eliminate trachoma in the districts of Amhara region in Ethiopia. The Foundation has already embarked on a three-year 'Trachoma Elimination' programme which aims to treat 18 million individuals living under poverty across Amhara region.

Sheikh Mohammed lauded the efforts of Noor Dubai Foundation and its achievements since its inception in 2008, reaching out to over 23 million people around the globe, stressing that he values the youth’s novel ideas and creative skills, encouraging the foundation to create opportunities for national talented, researchers and students.

Chairman of Noor Dubai Foundation Essa Al Maidoor highlighted the importance of dialogue and exchange of views at a brainstorming session to reach to constructive ideas and creative solutions aimed to develop the foundation’s strategy, which will be unveiled next October, marking the celebration of World’s Sight Day.

For her part, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation Dr. Manal Taryam thanked Sheikh Mohammed, stating that his attendance affirms his keenness to encourage innovation and creative thinking at local and federal levels. Dr Taryam went on to affirm that with the leadership’s unremitting support the foundation will continue its blindness prevention efforts globally and will formulated national programs to fight blindness.

Present at the brainstorming session were former U. President and Founder of The Carter Centre Jimmy Carter and Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality Khalifa Saeed Suleiman.
