No compensatory off for New Year holiday

Ministerial circular declares Saturday holiday for public sector

The public sector will be off work next Saturday to mark the new year, Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority said in a circular addressed to the federal ministries and enteritis.

The circular said article 5/100 of the federal cabinet resolution No 11 of 2008 reads: "A public holiday shall not be transferred or compensated if it falls on a public holiday or at the weekend. Accordingly, Saturday, 1st January 2011, will be the official holiday for the new year.

Al Qattami congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and people of the UAE on the occasion.

    All of my staff-US and Dubai will be off on Fri/Sat and Sun, our Dubai office works on Fridays and not on Sundays, they are given a PAID Holiday on Fri. That applies to our US HQ and Dubai offices. If the Holiday falls on a wknd, the previous or next work day should be given off with pay - it is the correct thing to do and it shows appreciation for your employees - regardless of where you are in the world...
