General Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has said the UAE, in cooperation with other Arab and Muslim countries as well as religious scholars, continues its efforts to project, promote and consolidate the real Islamic values and principles of justice, tolerance, peace, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect which are diametrically against extremism and violence.

In his remarks at a meeting with the UAE President's guest scholars at Al Bateen Palace, Gen. Mohamed commended the efforts being made by religious scholars in Arab and Muslim countries to project the real image, principles and tolerant goals of Islam which ennobles humanity, science, development and urban expansion, and to counter terrorist groups that do not belong to Islam.

He noted that these groups embrace violence, extremism, killing and destruction as approaches to achieve their disguised goals of promoting division among Muslims  and destroying its human, social and security assets.

They prayed to Allah to protect the security and stability of the UAE to enable it to continue its progress and development and serve its people and all Muslims.

Gen. Mohamed attends lecture on extremist ideology

General Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday at his majlis, attended a lecture by Usama al-Sayed Al Azhari, advisor to the Egyptian president, on ‘Erroneous Conceptions of Extremist Groups’.

Al Azhari stressed that the ideology and bloody practices of extremist groups are not based on true spirit of Islamic sharia and that they prosper in the absence of the authentic knowledge  promoted in Muslim countries by large Islamic institutes and schools like Al Azhar University in Egypt, Ezzitouna University in Tunisia, the Ottoman School in Libya, the Two Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia, Ahmadiya School in the UAE and many others.

These schools, he said, prepared men to promote a civilisation on the foundations of compassion, good ethics and keenness on protecting homeland.

He added that the groups that emerged some eighty years ago did not follow these scholarly institutes, lacked approaches to generate knowledge, had enthusiasm that not governed by fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence and knowledge) and ended up shedding blood.

Dr. Al Azhari said that these groups share a common ideology that is centred around the concept of ‘hakimiyya’ (the vision of God's dominion) leading them to practice takfir whereby they accuse Muslims in general of apostasy violating the consensus of renowned and highly-esteemed Islamic scholars and authorities like Al-Ghazali, Ibn Masoud, Ibn Abbas, Al-Tabari and many others.

Boko Haram, Daesh and Al Qaeda, he said, are among the groups that "lost the keys to true knowledge over the past eight decades”.

At the lecture, which is the first to be delivered at the Majlis of The Crown Prince this Ramadan, the audience also included Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Deputy Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain; Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court; Sheikh Dhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development; as well as the UAE President's guests scholars, sheikhs, ministers, ambassadors and members of the media.
