Stylish makeover: All-new Dubai Police sports cars to patrol city streets

After months of speculation, prototypes and feedback from the public, it appears Dubai Police has finally shifted gear to unveil its all-new patrol cars to protect the city streets.
 
The authorities unveiled the images on micro blogging site Twitter, with the Chevrolet Camaro two-door prototype having many online enthusiasts reminiscing of supercar KITT from the popular ‘Knight Rider’ series of the 1980s.

In a statement, Dubai Police has confirmed it will soon introduce sports cars into its fleet to enhance its patrolling abilities.

Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, in the presence of Major-General Abdul Rahman Mohammad Rafi, Director-General, Department of Community Service, and Brigadier Pilot Anas Al Matrooshi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Operations for Transport and Rescue, reviewed the new cars.

The sports cars have been designed according to Dubai Police specifications and 'will help to facilitate policing on highways', according to the authorities.
 
Earlier, Major-General Khamees Matar Al Muzainah, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police had announced that new vehicles would be launched to upgrade the current fleet.
 
In the last one-year, the Dubai Police authorities have released images via social media, in a campaign to the get the public involved in the process of finalising the design change.

In 2012, a slightly altered version of the current model also vent viral, with the prototype resembling the four-door Dodge Charger.

However, in the background, viewers were also able to see the Toyota Prado SUV prototype, along with the BMW 5 series.
 
Last year, Majid Motors also confirmed a handover of 50 units of the Kia Mohave to the General Department of Operations of Dubai Police.
 
Of the 50 units, 35 were marked as patrol cars.
 
At the time Brigadier Anas Al Matrooshi, deputy director Transport and Rescue Dubai Police said: “Our selection reflects the value we place on quality; ensuring our force is better able to do its job with the right tools..”
