The UAE will not spare any effort to provide support to the Arab Parliament, its members and the new speaker, to serve the interests of the Arab world, and support the joint Arab action, Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, has said.

The Arab World is currently facing imminent dangers, threatening its national security and attempting to manipulate and control the Arab people’s destiny, Al Jarwan said, during the last session of the Arab Parliament, held on Saturday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

“The voice of the Arab people, their conscience, common history, present solidarity, as well as common destiny and future, should be expressed in a strong joint Arab action towards all Arab issues,” he said.

Al Jarwan called upon the representatives of the Arab people to act with full force to support the joint Arab action, with a view to expand its domains to include all aspects to achieve the Arab people’s aspirations, welfare and interests.

On the developments of the Palestinian issue, Al Jarwan said it would remain a central Arab issue, calling on the international community and United Nations to enforce all the international resolutions regarding Palestine to establish a Palestinian state whose capital will be Jerusalem. He also called for deterring the repressive policies of the racist Zionist bloc that are contrary to all international laws.

Al Jarwan urged all world parliaments to pressure Israel to acknowledge the Palestinian state, a move that would serve durable peace in the region and world at large. About Syria, he referred to the dire situation of the Syrian people in many cities inside Syria. He called for an immediate cessation of the continuing shelling, and urged the international community to heed voices of reason and end the impending tragedy.

Al Jarwan also called for international relief organisations to intervene to deliver aid to the Syrian people inside Syria and allow safe and unfettered access to organisations to provide humanitarian services to the refugee camps in neighbouring countries, especially in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, particularly with the onset of winter.

He also reiterated the call for stakeholders to respond to the Arab parliament relief initiative to assist the Syrian refugees.

Al Jarwan called upon Iran to respect the principle of good neighbourliness and to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries, and stop policies aimed at spreading hateful sectarian discords across the Arab world.

He further reiterated his call to Iran to respond to the demand of the UAE to resolve the issue of the three occupied UAE islands: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Mousa, either through direct negotiations or recourse to the international Court of Justice.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed that the parliament backs the Libyan people in their endeavour for tolerance, reform, development and prosperity.

He hoped that Libya would restore its position to contribute effectively to the progress of the Arab world through the joint Arab action.

On Iraq, he said, "As we stand with the people of Iraq in its war against all forms of terrorism, we underscore the importance of the territorial unity of Iraq and its people, as well as respect to its sovereignty and Arab identity. We condemn all forms of terrorism and foreign interference being underwent by Iraq."

He stressed the need to solve the problem of displaced people, whose numbers increase everyday.

Al Jarwan said all should work to facilitate their return as soon as possible, while expressing hope that Iraq would restore its active role within the joint Arab action.

On the latest developments in Yemen, he said: "We back the legitimacy of the Yemeni people and their will against all those who aspire to tamper with the destiny of Yemen or impose foreign agendas on its proud Arab people. As we stand behind the Arab coalition in support of legitimacy in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia, we express the hope that fruitful dialogue will eventually lead to security, peace and freedom for all the people of Yemen."

Al Jarwan renewed his call to support the least developed Arab African countries such as Comoros, Djibouti, and Somalia, particularly in the areas of health, education and public services. He urged an emphasis on Arab identity cherished by those countries to protect them from ambitions of some other countries that seek to isolate them from their Arab affiliation.

He noted that the last session of the Arab Parliament in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, was the best proof of the extent of strength of the Arab-African relations, referring to the outputs of the joint Pan-African Parliament regarding the political, economic, social and strategic dimension of the African-Arab relations. He called for maintaining this convergence towards more joint action in the best interests of the African and Arab peoples.

Ambassador Ahmed bin Heli, Deputy Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, paid a tribute to Al Jarwan for managing the Arab parliament during his tenure amid critical changes and challenges.
