Groom's condition before wedding – Dh500k for divorce

A Saudi father was surprised when a man seeking to marry his daughter set what he considered as a humiliating condition – that his daughter must pay him SR500,000 (Dh500,000) if she decides to divorce him. The father’s surprise turned into a shock when his daughter agreed to marry the man.

“The daughter agreed to the demand when the man explained his condition,” the Saudi Arabic language daily ‘Al Watan’ said in a report from the southern Jazan province.

“He said he made that condition after having three failing marriage experiences and that he had decided to have a permanent and happy marriage this time as that sum will discourage his wife from asking for a divorce.”
