Husband chooses to divorce than be lashed

A Saudi husband who was accused of defaming his wife had to choose between divorcing her or getting 75 lashes on court orders. He opted for a divorce.

The unnamed husband had accused his Saudi wife during an argument of dancing in an obscene way at a local party before marriage, prompting her to file a defamation case at court and leave for her parents’ house.

“The court sentenced him to 75 lashes with the whip but the wife said she could drop the case if he divorces her…he quickly divorced,” the Saudi Almadina newspaper said without mentioning where the couple lives.
