Killer maid to undergo psychiatric test

An Ethiopian housemaid facing execution is to undergo psychiatric tests to determine if she is normal after murdering her female employer by stabbing her 117 times and burning the woman’s two-year-old daughter.

A criminal court in Ras Al-Khaimah ordered the maid, identified only as SBL, to undergo examination after committing the dual murder in Nakheel area in the emirate in August, Albayan Arabic language daily reported on Thursday.

“The prosecution has demanded the execution of the maid during previous trials…the judge has now decided that she should undergo psychiatric examination to determine if she is mentally normal,” the paper said.

Following an argument with her employer, the maid, in her 20s, rushed to the kitchen, brought a knife and stabbed the Arab woman 117 times.

She then set the house on fire, stole her employer’s money and jewelry, locked the door and fled. The woman’s daughter, an Emirati, died of suffocation while the maid was later arrested at a friend’s flat in Sharjah.
