Colombo: A youth who allegedly made repeated telephone calls to a young woman, causing her significant nuisance, was charged in the courts, ‘Daily Mirror’ reported.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Bentota in Southern province, persistently called her on the phone anonymously, while attempting to woo the young woman.

The police said that the suspect had allegedly made 167 phone calls within two days, according to their investigations conducted so far.

The young woman, in a complaint to the Kollupitiya police, requested the law enforcement to have legal action taken against the anonymous caller as she was facing severe inconvenience and accordingly, the suspect was arrested and produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

Subsequently, the youth was released on bail and a charge sheet was filed against him which alleged that he had committed a punishable offense under section 59 (1) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Act.
