Have you cast your vote for the UAE projects participating in the World Summit in the Information Society (WSIS) competition? If not it’s not too late to do so.

The UAE is participating in 10 of the 18 categories for the WSIS Project Prizes 2014. Last year two projects from Saudi Arabia won the top two positions. Your vote can help UAE reach there, as well.

WSIS - a UN initiative - is part of the drive to bridge the global digital divide between the technological haves and have-nots.

Among the top UAE initiatives that are participating this year are UAE Mobile Government, Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Project and Abu Dhabi Government e-Citizen Program.

Initiatives

The Mobile Government initiative by TRA, for example, aims to move government entities to work out creative solutions for providing services efficiently through simple and transparent procedures round-the-clock that meet customers' expectations.

Furthermore, it aims to stress on communication with customers to enable a high quality of life for UAE nationals and expatriate residents, in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

According to the project description, “The initiative will utilize mobile phones, mobile devices and other advanced technological tools to deliver services and information to the public. This initiative supports the establishment of a Mobile Innovation Center, National Trusted Service Manager (NTSM), Government Mobile app market, Mobile Payment, Mobile Identity and many more creative and innovative applications.”

"The 10 UAE based initiatives that have reached this stage in the competition have done incredibly well - especially given the quality of this year’s submissions. With such a strong UAE presence in the second phase, we look forward to the prospect of progressing even further and showcasing to the world, the UAE’s commitment to transform Government service delivery through technology,” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director-General and Chairman of the WSIS National Committee.
