A couple are on trial at Birmingham Crown Court for allegedly killing their 11-month-old baby. They have pleaded not guilty and are now trying to blame the family dog for the infant's injuries.

The prosecution told the court that the child had been deliberately "inflicted injury immediately before his collapse". The child died four days later at Birmingham Children's Hospital, reports UK daily Mirror.

According to the doctors who gave evidence in court, the child had been shaken and with at least "one impact to the left side of the back of the head".

Forensic report confirmed the child had sustained a fracture in his skll and there was the evidence of haemorrhaging in both eyes.

The doctors also found scars and abrasions on the child's body, made at different points of time.

They also found two fractured ribs and a broken left collar bone, which had healed over time.

The couple alleged that the family dog could have injured the baby by accidentally "sitting on him".
